Black Panther Breaks Box Office Records

With all the buzz and hype surrounding it, this is one movie that needs no introduction. Since its premiere, it’s been knocking off box office records like Lego toys.  With $909.8 million at the global box office, it has now surpassed Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Batman vs Superman, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man 3 worldwide.

It currently holds the following records;

Highest-grossing solo/non-sequel superhero movie: With $501 million in North America and $897m worldwide, Black Panther has passed Fox’s Deadpool ($363m/$783m in 2016), to become the biggest non-sequel and non-ensemble superhero flick of all time.

It is the Second-biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe grosser in North America

It is the biggest third-weekend gross for a non-holiday weekend since both Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens

It is the Seventh-biggest superhero movie ever worldwide: the movie is vastly over performing overseas and the film now sits behind only The Dark Knight ($1 billion).

There are speculations that it might be Marvel’s highest grossing film ever and If Black Panther does eventually pass that threshold, then it’ll rest comfortably as the biggest solo superhero film ever and it will probably stay at the top for a long time.
